Is Facebook Poised to Kill Classmates?

I’m curious what your thoughts are on this subject. As I posted a few weeks (or possibly months) ago, I have joined the Facebook community, and am actually enjoying it quite a bit. My question to the world is: Is Facebook poised to kill Classmates? If not, why not? If so, why hasn’t it happened, yet?

In my personal opinion, Facebook should have already done away with Classmates; yet, Classmates continues to chug along. What does Classmates offer, other than a longer hold on the market, that Facebook does not? Everything available on Classmates is available on Facebook, as far as I know. The fundamental difference is that you don’t have to pay in order to access any of it on Facebook.

I have been fed up for years by the fact that Classmates wants me to purchase a subscription just so I can chat with some of my friends from the past. What’s even more frustrating about Classmates is the fact that I have to be a gold member in order to even read the messages people have apparently posted on my “message board” (although, not shelling out the money means that I have no way of knowing for sure whether those e-mail updates are accurate).
